Activities for babies and children in Rusthall and Langton Green

I thought it might be helpful to list groups and activities for children in Rusthall and Langton Green, as I know how they helped me get through the days when my own children were little, and how invaluable it is to meet parents who live within walking distance! The focus is on free or cheap and accessible without getting in the car - for days when you need to leave the village look at My Tunbridge Wells.

Tunbridge Wells Children’s Centres have lots of courses and playgroups. The nearest children’s centre is Harmony in Rusthall, which has a Stay and Play session with messy play for little ones on Tuesday 9.30-11am. It is free of charge and no need to book. If you need any more info call 03000 418 059, email tunbridgewellscc@kent.gov.uk or follow them at @TWChildrenscentre on Facebook.

Rusthall Library now has a Playground session on Tuesdays at 10.30am-11.15am. Playground is a free weekly session for children aged 0 - 24 months and their parents or carers in libraries and early years settings across Kent. Led by a team of brilliant artists and musicians, you and your child can share creative play. If you would like to find out more, please email playgroundproject@kent.gov.uk

Also at the library is Rhyme Time, a nursery rhyme singing session. The first session is on Friday 17th June between 10.30-11am, and the plan is for it to be on three out of four Fridays a month going forward. Free and no need to book, all pre-schoolers are welcome! Email rusthalllibrary@kent.gov.uk for more information.

Rusthall Library also has a Home Ed Book Group for children aged 8 and over who are independent readers. The first meeting is Thursday 23rd June between 10-11am when they will be talking about Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif. Again, email rusthalllibrary@kent.gov.uk if you are interested!

Rusthall Family Fun is going to be running on Fridays from 10th June to 15th July from 3.30-6.30pm in the Mary Caley Playground on Ashley Gardens. Run by Play Place who run the After School Club and the Sunnyside Pre-school in the village, this is free fun for children of all ages. Parents and carers are asked to stay with their children. Contact joby.gifford@playplace.org for more information.

Langton Pavilion Café is famous beyond Langton Green for its child-friendly approach, with lots of toys for children to play with while their parents and carers have coffee. In summer the fun can spill out onto the recreation ground too. They are usually open Tuesday-Friday 9am-4pm.

Little Saints has been running in the Langton Green Church Hall (behind the church) from 9-11am for playtime, hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes, biscuits and of course lots of catching up chatter! Term time only.
